Motorcycle Parts

A simple motorcycle is comprised of basic parts which when integrated functions as it was designed to. Different systems perform very essential part and function to power a motorcycle. Among the basic parts are the following:

DRIVETRAIN
The drivetrain system of a motorcycle is composed of component that generates power. Drivetrain is composed of engines, carburetor, transmission, shift lever and clutch.
ENGINE ( the engine converts energy into mechanical motion. It burns fuel (through internal combustion). It uses gasoline as fuel. It is mounted centrally below the driver’s seat.
CARBURETOR ( This is the part that blends air with fuel for the engine. Most of the new models use fuel injectors to replace the carburetors.
TRANSMISSION ( The gear system of the motorcycle. It transmits the mechanical power to the wheels (by chain, belt or solid shaft).
SHIFT LEVER ( This is used to change the gear of the motorcycle. This is placed to one of the handle bars.
CLUTCH ( This is the opposite of brake. Clutch provides the driving force. This is usually a pedal operated by the left foot.
WHEELS, TIRES AND BRAKES
WHEELS ( The wheel is the rotating part of the motorcycle. This facilitates the transportation while supporting load.
TIRES ( Tires are the pneumatic part of the motorcycle system. Inflatable rubber tubes inside the thicker rubber thread is used as tires.
BRAKES ( Brakes provides the opposing force to stop the motorcycle. This is usually controlled or activated by foot levers or handlebars.
FRAMES AND SUSPENSIONS

SUSPENSIONS ( Suspensions are located both front and rear to do shock absorbing function.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
BATTERIES ( The component that stores electricity needed by the motorcycle.
LIGHTS ( includes brake lights, directional light, tail lights and head lights.
INSTRUMENTATION ( Instrumentation of the motorcycle includes odometer, tachometer, speedometer and sometimes fuel gauge for the new models.
OTHER PARTS
Parts that were not mentioned includes motor seat, exhaust system, mirror, sometimes saddle bags or basket, etc.

Maintaining good running condition of your motorcycle not only maximizes its full potential, but will also give you the assurance of safety and sound ride. There are many tips in making sure that your motorcycle will perform well. Maintaining it will take you time, money and effort but will provide benefits for you.

In doing maintenance, carefully inspect the parts and systems that are always subjected to dirt, wear and vibration. These parts need to be adjusted or replaced if necessary. Inspect the following parts:

Carbs and fuel ( in assuring proper air and fuel blending, check the carburetor if it can still suck enough air and can blend the precise ration of air and fuel.

Cosmetics and Appearance ( good and healthy appearance of the motorcycle implies a very good maintenance and responsible management. Cleaning the exteriors often requires a lot of effort but with less money involved.
Tires and Brakes ( it is very important for safety riding that you regularly check the brakes and tires. Tire looses air and pressure, so better check them always. Some of the usual motorcycle accidents are caused by faulty brakes, so to avoid the possibility of having such, be sure you’ll have enough brake power to make you safe. Always check the disc brakes, and make sure, it is functioning well.
